Warranty

Manual warranty dates on assets; Dell TechDirect sync only when you press Sync after Connections → Warranty credentials.

What is stored

Each inventory asset can hold warranty status (active, expired, unknown, out of warranty), start and end dates, provider, notes, and last synced time.

Expired is derived from status or from an end date before today. Blank / unknown with no end date is not treated as expired.

Manual entry

Enter or edit warranty dates and provider anytime on the asset - no vendor API required. Prefer accurate service tags / serials so later Sync can match.

Dell Sync

Configure Dell TechDirect Client ID and Secret under Settings → Connections → Warranty. Sync runs vendor lookup only when you press Sync for that asset - not on every save - so API quota stays controlled.

Lookup uses the asset serial / service tag. Success fills status, start/end, provider, and synced-at. Failures show a clear message (auth, missing tag, or no Dell record) without wiping careful manual dates unless Sync replaces them.

Tips

If Sync says credentials are missing, you can still keep manual dates. Secrets never belong in URLs or ticket comments.

Other OEM providers may be added later; today Dell is the wired vendor path with provider defaulting toward Dell when configured.
